Top Ten Tuesday #71

Hosted by the Broke and the Bookish!

Five Books To Read If You Like The Mediator

I loved the Mediator series by Meg Cabot as a youngun', and I was always on the lookout for any other book that dealt with paranormal topics. I was mostly looking for the strong female character, who not necessarily was the strongest, but still had the courage to fight. The five books I am featuring all have this element, besides Hold Me Closer, Necromancer, since the main character is male. But same thing, haha.

Sabriel by Garth Nix - Featuring a somewhat necromancer who has to take over her father's job to get rid of the undead.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer - Our heroine with a mysterious past, Cinder, fights against the prejudices of being a cyborg. But unbeknownst to all, her past is the key to saving Earth.

The Falconer by Elizabeth May - Aileana slays fae because they're evil and a threat to humans, unfortunately she's the only one that can see them.

Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride - Sam discovers that his past has been hidden from him, and he's secretly a necromancer. This turns out to be bad news because the other, stronger necromancer sees potential in him.

Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce - Alanna really wants to be a knight, so she disguises herself as a man, and begins her journey to knighthood.

I've been seeing a lot of people recommending Cinder in this meme xD

I haven't read Sabriel but it looks interesting. Necromancers you say? Count me in!

Great post, Val :)

That's because Cinder is such a great book haah! And yes Sabriel is fantastic!
I'm s happy to see so many Alanna recs in this meme! Cinder too, though it's super popular already so I recommended a less popular book for fans.

I love Alanna so much! I really need to reread it! And Cinder is THE BESTTTT! I tried to recommend less popular books too, but I failed!
Ah, I loved Hold Me Closer, Necromancer! I want to read Sabriel. I always see it on these types of lists and it always sounds good! The Falconer was food, but I'm still angry about that terrible cliffhanger, haha.

I'm so glad you loved that book! And yeah, Sabriel is good as well :) The Falconer had a horrible cliffhanger, and the publication date for the second book gets further and further away for some reason...
I've never read The Mediator but I read the books you recommended and loved them so I think I'm gonna give The Mediator a chance haha

You should because it is such an awesome series :)
I've only read Cinder. Sabriel is on my shelf, but I haven't gotten to it yet. I've seen The Falconer and the cover caught my attention, but I haven't head much about it.

The Falconer is amazing, but there's this huge cliffhanger end. So if you don't like books like that then it may not be for you. And Sabriel is just awesome in general :)
I haven't read any of these except Cinder (*hides in shame*), but they all sound absolutely amazing! Definitely going to have to check them out. Thanks for sharing Val and, as always, great choices! <3 3

Yes I love it that more and more people are getting into the series :)
I love paranormal and I feel like it's been phased out of YA lately due to the advent of dystopia and quirky-illness books instead. This is such a great list of them! I need to read Hold Me Closer Necromancer because that cover is FRICKING GORGEOUS. Yes yes I totally go for the cover first and foremost.
