Stacking the Shelves #24

Stacking The Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks!

Holly @ The Fox's Hideaway sent me a SURPRISE PACKAGE (but it wasn't a surprise haha) of The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly. THANK YOU SO MUCH HOLLY YOU ARE THE BEST. I'm super excited to read this and yes I will discuss it with you hahaha.

I think I would be lying if I said nothing happened this week. Well nothing I physically did happened, because I'm a lazy bum. And all I have is classes and work and ya know, boring stuff.

However, I do want to mention that I was awarded a lot of money to work in two labs this summer! And I'm really happy because I wasn't sure if I would actually get the research grant, BUT I DID GUYS. I DID.

On a sadder not, my parents just put their house on the market. And that makes me sad because EVERYTHING IN MY LIFE IS CHANGING. Sure I don't really live there anymore, but it's just weird to think about.

And that's all. On another note, Ollie the dog ate another one of my roommate's underwear. The same one she replaced from the last time he ate it.

I'm so sorry for your parents' house. Even if you don't live there anymore, it has been a part of your life and I understand it is hard to let go.. *huge crashing virtual hugs*

On a happier note, I'm happy for the ARC! I have an eARC of that as well and I'm so excited to read it!! *-* Would you be interested in a buddy read? *-* Haven't done one of those in a while ;)

I loved The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly (: I hope you do too! And you must discuss it with me too. It's haunting to say the least, but also inspiring at the same time. I loved everything about it really.

Hahah. I feel you on nothing happening in life. Like whenever I have to do this recaps I never know what to say because I'm like....I did the same things as last week. But omfg girl~~~~ Congrats on getting all of the $$$$ for future lab work.

And awww :( I can totally see why you'd be sad about your parents selling your childhood home. I'm sure you have a lot of memories there, and if you're as nostalgic as me you get attached to places easily. Like right now I'm at a hotel and sure know that I'll miss it when I get home :p

I am so excited about that book, I can't wait to read it. What a nice 'surprise' package :D Congrats on those two lab jobs (I didn't know you did something in a laboratory! Awesomeeee :D I am almost done with my study and I hope to find a job on a lab soon too)

Congrats on getting the research grant, Val! That's so exciting! And for two research labs, too! Also, I am laughing so hard right now because somehow a dog repeatedly eating underwear is quite funny. :)

Congratulations about the research grant, girl! :D <3 I totally get how you feel about your parents' house, even if you don't live there anymore, it's where you grew up!

Congratulations on getting those grants, Val! I'm sure you worked your ass for it and it's satisfying for me to see a hard work well rewarded. I would be unhappy too if any of our houses or places I grew up in were to be sold... I mean, those places ARE MINE, you know what I mean? Sure, they're not exactly my property, but I grew up there! I would love to keep coming back if the nostalgia strikes.

Whoa, you didn't think they'd get around to selling the house that quickly, my goodness. I would be very sad if my parents sold their house too, I think it is hard no matter if you're living there or not. BIG congrats on the research grant. that is fantastic!!

And The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly... GAH, my heart hurts. I want that book in a BAD way. I guess I will have to pre order it! Hope you enjoy it, let me know what you think!

I've never heard of that book before, but YAY FOR SURPRISE PACKAGES... THAT AREN'T REALLY SURPRISES but who cares. Getting packages in the mail is enough. :B

Ugh, it is so creepy how much I can relate to you. Pretty much the reason why my weeks are all so boring and mediocre is because I can never summon the energy get off my ass and do something interesting. But seriously though, all I really need is my computer. The internet is a magical place full of magical people. And life is actually pretty great with just the internet as my buddy. I forgot to ask: what are you studying again? It's so cool that you get to do research in a lab (and get paid for it, haha)!

Lol, Ollie. My dog used to chew up slippers, but once we hid all the slippers for about a year, he suddenly lost that habit and now he's all nice. xD

Have a great week this week, Val! <3 33

I'm so sorry about the changes. I've never moved before and I can't imagine losing a house where all the memories were made it. <3 33 At least you were awarded money and recognized for your talent! YAY for that <3 33

I haven't read this book but I've heard of it. I will admit, that the fact that she loses her hands freaked me out a lot. That was kind of why I didn't want to read it but I hope you enjoy it!

Ollie sounds like a ratbag, little rascal. My dog is the same with socks. He's lazy, but drop a sock anywhere in the house and he springs to life like a marathon runner. That's awesome news about the research grants, well done Val. Just incredible! I hope you're able to celebrate before you start.

I hadn't heard of Monnow Bly until half an hour ago, when the Aussie publisher called for ARC reviewers. It's sounds amazingly unique and I can't wait to see what you think of it. I'm so sorry to hear about your parents selling up, moving is always a traumatic experience. But when you go home now to the new house, you can create new memories and before long, you'll have your own family to create memories with one day too <3

Congratulations on the awards :) I've moved before from my house about 4 times now? It is sad because once I get used to a place, we're moving lol but it's usually for the better though. Sometimes, change is good - hope you have a wonderful week x

Wootttt congratz! Getting the grant is a great achievement! I'm sure you'll do well in the lab! <3 One curious question from me though, what are you researching when you apply for a grant? I mean, do you choose what you want to research about or do they determine the cases? I'm considering getting a degree in biology or chemistry but things still seem vague to me.

Congrats on getting the grant! That should be a great experience

I definitely understand being sad about your parents selling their house. I actually still live in the house I grew up in (which is kind of weird at times), but a lot of my friends' parents have been selling their houses over the past few years. One of my best friends had a super awesome house that we all loved - it had a spiral staircase, a great deck, just lots of fun stuff. We used to have tons of parties there and I'm going to miss it even though it was never my house. I'm not sure what I will do when my childhood home is sold.

LOL @ the dog eating your roommate's underwear. That's hilarious.

CONGRATS ON THE RESEARCH GRANT! :D That's so awesome, and you'll have to keep us updated with what's going on. My parents are already talking about how they'll probably put their house on the market when I move out, especially if I go across the Pond like I've been talking about. They said there's nothing keeping them in this town if I leave so they'd much rather go where our entire family is (I don't blame them).

CONGRATS on the research grants Val, that is an amazing achievement! It's a bit sad about your parents house, especially with your childhood memories. I really want to read Minnow Bly as well! Have a lovely week Val.
