Top Ten Blogging Confessions
HA! Like I'll actually confess to all of these??? Yeah right. Oh ok, fine. I mean, I do have some big and small ones here, this is a judge free zone! Just kidding judge all you want, I take no offense.

1. My absolute number one fault when blogging is procrastinating with writing reviews. To be honest, I don't like writing that much. Well, I mean I do, which is why I'm here in the first place, but I've never been a fan of putting words together to form sentences. It's actually really hard! And then I read other reviews that have such beautiful and intricately woven writing, and I'm just like "hahahHAHA, this book give me zee feelz"
2. I usually give out star ratings before I finish reading. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, though I'm just mentioning it because I can already tell coming up with 10 confessions is going to be hard. But yeah, this happens. Everytime I read.
3. And to follow up, I have a hard time sorting out my feelings for said book. When writing a review, I have trouble with figuring out what made me sad or mad or happy. Usually it's like "Wow THIS WAS SO AMAZ, and I don't know how to explain it and ARGH GAH KAPUT"
4. I can't stop using slang words from Earth Girl, like "AMAZ", short for amazing. Can someone please stop me now. I'm starting TO THINK IT. Earlier today, I was at the library and I saw The Art of Lainey and just thought to myself "Wow I've heard so many good things about this book and how amaz it was.........wait a sec. what did I just think. WHY"
5. I read like a turtle. It took me about 3 weeks to read the four books I borrowed at the library. I'm trying to increase my slug pace, but I don't know. I actually read really fast, I'm just a procrastinator when it comes to actually finding the time to read.
6. And because of procrastination, I also rarely schedule posts. Maybe once in a while, I'll have ONE post up and ready to go. But most of the time. Nopers.
7. I've actually only read about 115 books in the last 5 years. Sad life I have here. ALTHOUGH, I am aiming to read 50 books this year! And I'm already up to 35! Though I know it's not that high, compared to some bloggers I know. Yes I'm looking at you. You know who you are.
8. I want to try different genres, but I can't seem to get away from YA fantasy. If you look through my tags, you'll see that "Fantasy" is the biggest and first one in my cloud thing on my blog.
9. I LOVE READING NEGATIVE REVIEWS. They are the most entertaining rants I have ever read. Oh and also, this applies to Goodreads/Blogosphere drama. I just like knowing what's going on, and seeing people's reactions and posts. Does this make me a bad person? Yes probably.
10. I often run out of things or books to mention in my Top Tens. BUT HA. LOOK AT THAT. I ended up filling them all! Muhaha. I'm a genius

DeleteYour list is great! I have to admit to loving to read negative reviews too (even though I feel awful while writing them). I kind of feel like they are both more fun, and often more informative! I also think about star ratings before I am done! Even in the beginning, like "so far, this is a 4", etc. Glad I'm not alone :)
ReplyDeleteWow I only feel awful writing them when someone comments back like "Oh, I don't like bashing authors", and then I feel all guilty and bad about it. I just hope my rants aren't that harsh! But they're just so much fun to writeeeee and also readdd.

DeleteTHIS IS SO AZAM!!!!!! (haha infectious term). Sometimes I just want to write on my review things like: FEELS EVERYWHERE FEELS or THIS BOOK IS SO AWESOME I CAN'T BREATHE BC AZAM. If it's a really really good book I tend to be a little incoherent. I procrastinate in writing reviews too. I feel like I don't know how to put into words my thoughts and emotions. And yes, negative reviews are very very entertaining especially if I also dislike that book. I find it very amusing and funny.

DeleteBut that's basically what my reviews are if I don't actually try to write coherently. FEELS FEELS EVERYWHERE.
I love negative reviews too. And I love writing them every so often. I have go-to reviewers whose negative reviews always crack me up. Strangely, they're more likely to make me want to read the book..?

DeleteI kind of evilly enjoy reading negative reviews too. Honestly, after reading a book, I read maybe 2 of my friends reviews on Goodreads...then I skim down to see the negative reviews. Omg, what does this say about me? I'm such a terrible person. >-< BUT ANYWAY. *coughs* All these marvellous confessions. It's quite interesting seeing what people are confessing to.

WE ARE ALL EVIL. WOW. JUST LOOK AT ALL US BLOGGERS. I'm obsessed with negative reviews ugh. And I do the same thing. Go to Goodreads to see other reviews on a book I hated (aka The Here and Now and Second Star)

DeleteI'm with you on writing reviews! I love to read and write, but sometimes it is really hard to capture your feelings about a book (both good and bad). Sometimes I find it's easier when I have a discussion with someone, because they bring up various points and you go from there. But, you're right. It always takes me a while to write a review, because I care about my readers and want to make it thorough. You seem to be doing just fine!

ReplyDeleteI love Author vs. Blogger drama, too. LOL! And negative reviews can be so entertaining! If someone ever figures out how to write positive reviews so well, he will win the book blogosphere and own it forever!
Ugh I feel like such a bad person for liking them, but it seems I'm not that only one!
DeleteI'm another who struggles with capturing feelings about a book, I'm fine with the positive things but when it comes to negative things I find it quite difficult to pinpoint anything bad about a book if I've enjoyed reading it. If I haven't enjoyed it it's much easier but if I enjoyed it it's really, really hard to find anything negative to say.
ReplyDeleteThanks for agreeing with me about the e-ARC thing on my blog, I've come to conclusion that maybe people don't talk about it as they are just grateful to be able to read the advance copy in the first place and don't want to complain about it and offend anyone, I'm grateful I can read them too but that occasion the format just ruined the book for me. Oh those badly formatted e-ARCs. The format does ruin it for me though, which is bad because it sometimes affects the rating I give it. And I know I should be grateful....but....well....it's just annoying. lol.

YA fantasy is my FAVORITE genre! I can't seem to stay away from it either. And I love reading the snarky, negative reviews as well. Most of them are thoroughly entertaining. Love your list! :)

DeleteHa! I'm a super slow reader too. It's so frustrating to me when others start a book at the same time as me and finish it several days before I do. So not fair! :-P And it's funny that you talk about negative and one-star reviews... I don't think I've ever given one before! That's because I'm a chronic DNF'er. If I'm not enjoying a book, I usually stop reading it. And if I don't finish it, I feel that I'm not able to accurately rate it on Goodreads, etc., so I just mark it as DNF and never rate it. Strange, I know... I'm weird like that. :D
ReplyDeleteNo that's not weird! You're just better at not reading things you hate! I'm stupid and persistent and then I end up making myself feel angry and mad and frustrated. I've only DNFed a couple of books in my life.
DeleteI feel like I'm also trying to constantly gauge what the star rating of the book I'm reading is going to be, and I hate that I do that! I just think to myself: just read and enjoy the book!!!

DeleteI can't formulate my feels into words either sometimes, I'm equally as jealous of bloggers who write such eloquent reviews. Like how? And YA fantasy is like a genre I'll read and nearly never come out of for months.

DeleteI also can generally know where a book is going to fall in the rating scale before I finish, though the ending of a book can change the rating by a star sometimes since I love plot twists and unexpected endings so much and hate cliffhangers, hehe.

Ha, this whole post had me giggling the whole time. If you want to break into more adult fantasy, you could try Brandon Sanderson, he's absolutely amazing!

HAHA I'm definitely guilty of enjoying negative reviews! I usually don't procrastinate *too much* on my reviews - they're usually out within a week or two of me finishing the book.

Haha I think I procrastinate for a day or so before finally getting to it. Though I really want to start scheduling posts, which probably won't happen unless I take a week off to actually schedule them.
DeleteI feel like half of these confessions were mine too, especially the procrastinating of reviews. I'm lazy, and when I really, really love a book I cannot put that into words most the time. WHY IS THIS SO HARD? Anyway, you make me laugh far too much, Val.

DeleteThis was a fun post, I think this is my fave TTT to date! And I can relate with your confessions so it's okay to regret nothing haha. I actually procrastinate a lot writing my reviews too, I've been drafting my Murder of Crows review for about 2 weeks -.-

Yes it was definitely a fun TTT. Wow for 2 weeks. I think that puts my level of procrastination a little lower than yours. Usually I'll have my draft up in a tab, and then I'll just accidentally head over to tumblr, and then things all go downhill from there.

ReplyDelete#1: Same -- I'll copy and paste all the bookish info like the cover, blurb, number of pages, etc. with no problems, but when it comes to actually writing the review? Yeeaaahhh... you'll probably find me watching YouTube or stalking Twitter rather than actually writing it. Discussion posts, though, are much easier to do, haha. Procrastinators unite!
#4: *side-eyes you* SNAP OUT OF IT, VAL. Don't turn into some weird book-slang gal, okay?! Now repeat after me: That was ah-may-zing. Not amaz. Definitely not amaz. ;) Nahhh, you do what you gotta do. I know there was one point in my life where I started using "fleck" instead of "f*ck," after reading Tomorrow Land by Mari Mancussi. It was a weird, weird time.
#5: Haha, I don't consider myself a very slow reader, but I'm the a fast one either. I'm average, I think. And hey, four books in three weeks isn't that bad! Usually it takes me about a week and a half to finish just one book, unless it's only 200+ pages long. That's why I probably only read like four or five books a month. Probably. This is getting embarrassing. Let's just continue. :P
#6: Lol, at most, I only have two posts scheduled. I just can't seem to sit down and type a whole post in one sitting. I have to fiddle around the internet, go watch some videos, or listen to some music. On lucky days, I can get maybe three scheduled, but that's it. I always admire others who're so organized they have their whole week scheduled. I could never do that!
#9: SO DO I! Oh my gosh, negative reviews are the best. They're just so funny because of the snark and the complaints and the hilarious GIFs. They're probably the only reviews I can read through completely; others I mostly just skim. Oops? xD

Hey I read about 4 to 5 books a month too! I think that's pretty good!
I've already come to the conclusion that I'll never schedule any posts. AND YAY NEGATIVE REVIEWS. It's ok I also tend to skim reviews of books I particularly don't care about., though nowadays I have more time now so I usually read the whole thing.

ReplyDeleteGosh, you think SLANG words are a problem???? I have the BIGGEST trouble not using something from Alice in Wonderland in every sentence! *sigh* I HAVE given up the fight against 'frabjous', though! It's quite hard to fight a word when it's so beautiful ;)
