Top Ten Classics I Want To Read
Ah nooooo I barely posted anything last week. I really need to get on my reading, I will try harder this week! For now though I'll just keep on commenting as usual.
Oh, this week's topic is classics? I don't really read many classics, but if I were to pick ten of them that I absolutely had to read sometime the future, then it would be:
Note that I consider all of these classics because 1) I'm familiar with it being a classic, and 2) I looked through the tag on Goodreads.

Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger - I've always wanted to read this, because it's technically considered Young Adult, and is also a coming of age story. But other than that, I don't exactly know the plot of the story.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald - I kinda want to read this after watching the movie.
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas - My best friend is obsessed with this, so that means it's really good, right?
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury - Yay a dystopia! And burning books? What?
The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank - I'm in the WWII mood, which is why I should read Anne Frank's Diary. Because it's Anne Frank.
Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut - So I discovered this title through another fiction book, and I've been interested in it, but I have no idea what the plot is.
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery - I have the urge to read this book even though it sounds so light-hearted. It just looks so fun!
1984 by George Orwell - I've been meaning to read this ever since my best friend read it for her English class, and also since I read Brave New World.
Watership Down by Richard Adams - IT'S ABOUT BUNNIES AND I DON'T KNOW WHY BUT BUNNIES.
A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett - This is my favorite childhood movie of all time and I should read this book.
Any classics on your list? Any ones that you would recommend? Link your TTTs below :D
1984 is on my list this week too. I should really try and get to it at some point! :-) I hope you enjoy these classics when you get around to them.
ReplyDeleteI've read a few of these! I loved Catcher in the Rye, Gatsby and Fahrenheit. Slaughterhouse Five was alright, not my favourite but not bad either. Let's not talk about Anne Frank...I cannot think about that book without wanting to burst into sobs again. I really, really didn't like 1984- I didn't even finish it.

I'm jealous you get to read so many of my favorite books for the first time. I suggest starting with Catcher in the Rye, Anne of Green Gables, and The Great Gatsby. You won't be disappointed!
ReplyDeleteWow I've only read The Great Gatsby from that batch. Though I would like to read Wstership Down.
ReplyDeleteI'm obsessed with The Count, too! So YES, read it!! :)
ReplyDeleteI actually haven't read any of these either except 1984 (which had intriguing moments, but overall I found it disappointing). The Great Gatsby, The Count of Monte Cristo, Fahrenheit 451, and A Little Princess are all ones I really want to read that on your list!
ReplyDeleteSlaughterhouse Five! It's not what you'd expect, but that's what makes it so enjoyable. Highly recommend!
ReplyDeleteThe Diary of a Young Girl is amazing, and so incredibly heartbreaking. A definite must-read, I think. I read The Great Gatsby, but "meh". And I think I was supposed to read Catcher in the Rye, but since I don't remember it, I am assuming I grabbed the Cliffs Notes ;)
ReplyDeleteI read The Great Gatsby but maybe I should read Fahrenheit 451 too.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog because you commented one of Jillians posts. Love your Header and following you now :)
Heh, I've only read two books on your list -- not that bad, considering classics isn't my forte. You should definitely read The Diary of a Young Girl! I read it a couple of years ago but I remember it being fairly good, and Anne is very honest about her thoughts and feelings. As for The Great Gatsby, I think that's one book I need to re-read. It wasn't nearly as great as I expected, kind of confusing actually, but I was able to grasp the overall story. Then again, I was only, like, fourteen when I read it? Haha, maybe I'll understand it better when I read it again!
ReplyDeleteCatcher in the Rye! Why didn't I think to put that on my list? I don't want to read it as badly as the ones I listed down in my post, but I'm still interested. And haha, you and I must be the only people left who hasn't read Anne of Green Gables yet. I know a lot of my friends have read it and liked it, but I don't know, it kind of looks a little too childish for my liking? Who knows, I might give it a try when I have the time.
Great list, Valerie!
Most of the books on your list I haven't read yet either! I forgot all about Fahrenheit 451, I definitely need to read that one. Great choices =)
ReplyDeleteAlmost all of these are big favourites of mine! Of the ones not mentioned on my blog, I've loved everything by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and Watership Down was spectacular. The Count of Monte Cristo is definitely amazing...but it's so big that you have to have patience for big books.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed The Diary of a Young Girl and Fahrenheit 451 : )
