Want To Know About Boarding School? (A Resource)

Where I had fun with Freepik Designs

Hey guys! Today, I want to talk about my past experience with *drumroll please* boarding school! Not many people know I attending boarding school for high school, and even now it’s such a weird topic to talk about because it was such a long time ago. But my main motivation for bringing it up now is 1) the portrayal of boarding schools in YA and 2) I have a whole Tumblr dedicated to people asking about my boarding school experience.

Let’s start with the basics. Why did I go to boarding school?
1. Swimming

And that’s basically it. Did I end up swimming? Well yes, I did. I spent more than half of my time in the pool, which I half regret and half do not because it kept me in shape I suppose. Even though I would never go back and redo high school again, I really enjoyed my time at boarding school. I made a lot of amazing friends, some I am still in touch with today.

Now, you may be wondering, what is it like at boarding school? Well I have all the answers for you. In fact, I have a whole Tumblr page dedicating to answering asks about it. This page, called Boarding School 101, was created years back with my best friend, who was my roommate while I was there.

We get a lot of questions from students wanting to attend boarding school, as you can see from just visiting the site. So many, that I ended up categorizing and tagging the asks. I also even have a separate page of photos of the boarding school my friend and I attended. Both authors and writers in the past few years have actually asked us questions about boarding school, which is why I am blogging about it here! I feel like there is a lot of good (and miscellaneous) information from all these questions, and our answers of course.

That's pretty much all I wanted to say! Feel free to check out the Tumblr if you're interesting in boarding school at all! Whether it's just for fun, or you're writing about it. Of course, not every experience is the same, but I think overall my experience is pretty similar to others!

I am kind of sad that you would not redo high school. Though that's probably the norm. I also went to my high school for swimming. It wasn't a boarding school of course, but a Catholic school and I am not, nor was I ever, Catholic. So I feel you on that level ;) But I loved every second of swimming, so I guess that is where we differ. I mean, if you told me I could go jump in now and do a 500, I would be giddy so... yeah. But I am so curious about your boarding school life! I shall spend more time on your Tumblr tomorrow. Goodnight!!

Hahahahh I know I think I am sad too, but it was also pretty strict and you know, I don't think I can live as a 20 and under year old anymore (except if I was a child). AND NO I HATED SWIMMING. NOPE NOPE. Also you should just jump into the pool and do a 500 hahah.
That's so cool that you went to a boarding school for swimming :O It's awesome you've got a Tumblr dedicated to boarding school experiences - I can imagine how daunting it must be for some students thinking about going to boarding school!

It is really daunting apparently! My best friend and I made it on a whim, and it turned into this huge (somewhat) thing for everyone applying to schools. It was very unexpected.
Oh boarding school is one of my favorite things in a book and you got to live it!!! SO cool. I will have to check out the Tumblr!

But were you friends with Ron Weasley? I hear he's such a dreamboat.

I honestly can't imagine what boarding school is like, I always thought it would be like regular high school, but instead of parents, you're supervised by teachers and you sleep there. Probably s but naive of me, but I've never seen a boarding school here. I'm sure we have them, but never heard of any. Most parents let their kids run wild and free and be raised by neighbourhood dogs.

Not really, only in some areas and we don't talk about those.

I WISH I WAS. Hahahaha. Seriously though, the only similarity between boarding school and Hogwarts is that we had prefects.

I mean you basically got it hahahah. It's pretty strict, are you can't really get off campus unless it's a school trip. To me, being away from my parents was freedom ahahha. (But I wouldn't mind running free and wild)
Oh, this is a cool post! May just have to stalk your Tumblr now as I know next-to-nothing about boarding schools and I'm sure the many movies/books/TV about it get it wrong or gives out misinformation. I honestly don't think I could have done a boarding school. I had trouble (and hated) even going away to camp for a few weeks. There's a reason I only did that once and was happy when my band camp was always at the high school. Haha. But it's good that you had a pleasant experience with it! And I'd never redo high school either. No effing way. :p

Oh Holly. Everyone gets it wrong and it is hilarious. I'm sure that my experience isn't much different from other places, because you can't just send your kids away and expect them to run around free. That's not how it works.

And yeah, nope would never redo high school. Though I loved getting away from my parents, so that was my main motivation.
Thank you SO much for this. After reading how lax everyone was in A Study in Charlotte whilst in boarding school, I was like, "Wow! Can I go?" I always wish I could redo high school in a way, just not the exams and constant worry over uniform violations. SIGH. Whoa, you're the boarding school guru over on tumblr. I'll def have to check it out as well lolz

I READ THAT BOOK TOO AND I WAS LIKE no way no way! Yeah I think in some aspects boarding school is fun (in that you get to hang out with your friends 24/7), but then in other ways it's very restricted. Hahah thanks Peach :D
Looking through your blog and your tumblr really make me wish that I went to boarding school for high school! There's one in my area but it's an all girls and it's known to be very strict. It's pretty cool though. It seems like such an amazing friends, being with them 24/7 must've help strengthen the bond you have with your friends! :D

Hahah mine was co-ed and even then it was super strict. I'm surprised that the all girls was just as strict, seeing as there are no boys. And yeah, one of the best things about boarding school is all the friends I've made! I actually still meet up with one of them, and I'm currently in grad school, so that's a long time!
