Top Ten Scary Books I Will Most Likely Avoid

Let's be honest, I am not at all a fan of spooky or creepy books. Why? Because that is not how I roll at all. Nevertheless, I will compile a list of books that I have seen floating around. Not that I'll read them.

I mean, unless you really want me to read them because they are THAT good, then I will consider it.

The Dead House came to mind because I now have a bookmark of it. I love said bookmark, but I don't think I would ever pick up the book. #sorrynotsorry.

The same author also wrote And The Trees Crept In, otherwise known as The Creeper Man, which to me sounds much more scarier. I actually have this book, but I'm not exactly sure if I'll have the guts to read it.

I was just reading the synopsis of Shutter, and I caught the fact that the main character is a tetrachromat. And I'm like, isn't that when you have four cones rather than three cones (in your retina?). But sure, I guess that includes auras of the undead. Anyways, I think I would actually read this. Maybe get an ebook of it or something.

I will most likely be reading Stalking Jack The Ripper at some point! Seeing as it doesn't seem too creepy compared to the others here. How bad can it be? Am I right? Right?

Okay Daughters Unto Devils looks creepy. Too creepy. Doesn't the girl on the cover reminds you of the girl from the ring? And basically any other creepy looking girl from any scary movie? Because no thank you. Bye.

Oh and speaking of the ring, how about The Girl From The Well. I remember reading reviews of this and being like "never in a thousand years, nopity nope nope."

I've heard of Of Metal And Wishes, and honestly I don't know. It doesn't sound like my kind of novel, yet I have heard bloggers rave about it.

And the cover for The Women In The Walls looks creepy enough, don't you think. Unfortunately I haven't heard the greatest things about this book, so even if I was all for horror, I will probably pass on this one!

Last Seen Leaving isn't exactly horror (Which I CLEARLY MENTIONED JOEY), but I think I would still count it as creepy and spooky. And not my type of book. I tend to keep away from thrillers as well, especially YA thriller. I haven't had much luck in that category, and I'm not sure if it's because I genuinely don't like them, or they're just bad.

Saw We'll Never Be Apart at Shannon's house this weekend, on her bookshelf, and no thank you I will gladly "be apart". Because I don't even care or know what it's about. Creepy trees? Maybe. Ugh.

Do you love reading thrillers or horror? Or no? How do you feel about Halloween coming up?

I read and enjoyed (for the most part) The Dead House (which I would say is another addition to the epistolary/documentary narrative format that readers may enjoy!) and am eager to read Kurtagich's Creeper Man (which I think was renamed to And the Trees Crept In). Otherwise, I did haul Shutter a long time back and still haven't gotten to it. Such is life. I don't even think I've read one spooky book this pumpkin spice season. Le sigh.

The 'Jack Ripper' novel is one I think I'll read at some point too. It sounds good, and I really like the cover. Plus I hear it's a good read. :)

This is such an adorable post. I was smiling picturing you being terrorized by book covers.

I can't do scary either! Creepy I can just about handle but outright frightening? Not a chance! I do kind of want to read The Dead House though because of the interesting format and I will definitely be reading Stalking Jack the Ripper because it looks amazing!

*high fives* from a fellow chicken!! I've occasionally forayed into horror, but I tend to cry a lot when I'm scared, so it's not something I enjoy...actually, I cry all the time, so it's not the crying, just the being scared part that I'm like "nope!"
There have been books that have been to creepy for me to read, too. I am right there with you, Val. The Creeper Man defintely looks scary. How do you like the Cinnamon/Pumpkin candle? I have been wanting to get that scent. :)

Haha yay! Glad I'm not the only one that is creeped out by all these books! I like the Cinnamon/Pumpkin candle, but honestly it is not as strong as the other scent I have (Sweater Weather scent), so I'm not sure if I would buy it again. I really can't smell much when I burn it.
I'm not a huge fan of horror movies, but horror books I can take. Stalking Jack the Ripper is also in my TBR, and I'm pretty excited about it. The Girl from the Well is actually on my list. lol. My TTT was more of the horror books on my TBR :)

I do prefer reading books that are creepy rather than full on horror. I have a way too overactive imagination for horror. I still remember somethig that really scared me in a book about 10 years ago! I think I'd avoid these books too...

Haha! I love you're list! I like horror books but I haven't read any of these yet.

haha, I love how you did top ten books you'll most likely avoid! That's great! A few of these are actually on my list that I WANT to read! haha! I am currently reading The Dead House and so far I like it (but I literally just started it!) So I don't know how scary it is yet!

Great list Val! I love it!

I'm not a huge fan of super scary things so most of these wouldn't suit me, but Stalking Jack the Ripper looks really good.

My TTT
Oh noooo, don't avoid Last Seen Leaving!! It's SO good && surprisingly not that scary. It's more mysterious and carries that "Ooooohhh" quality. We'll Never Be Apart wasn't either tbh. It does (SPOILERS!) have a scene of animal abuse. Which I forever hate in books. I think one of the scariest book I've ever read was Chandler Baker's Alive && after a while, I just stayed awake for a bit, thinking about it. I was so freaked. lolz
That cover of Shutter gets me EVERY time! It's SO CREEPY!!!
Great Top Ten :D My Top Ten Tuesday!

Oh man I loved all of these lol. Though Dead House was great, but not actually what I would consider scary. The Creeper Man was scarier. I've read and loved most of the books on your list.

Of Metal and Wishes isn't really creepy, so don't let that be the only thing to turn you off from it. I enjoyed it back when I read it, but it's not a book that has really stuck with me since.

BWHAH so I almost actually added We'll Never Be Apart to MY list but then ran out of room, which is kind of funny. I am not normally thrilled by thrillers so... I don't know. They have to be REALLY good to actually leave an impact, which is why I think I am so hesitant to start them. So... we'll see. It looks like I'll be reading one soon ;)
My recent post Pick My Halloween Read!
I own THE GIRL FROM THE WELL, and while The Ring scared the crap out of me, I would definitely give it a go, especially since I own an e-book of it. tbh, the creepiness of the covers in DAUGHTER UNTO DEVILS and THE WOMEN IN THE WALLS is what make me want to read them! I admit I'm a scaredy cat, but I like being spooked somehow haha!
My recent post Announcement: Exams and Moving to WordPress
See the thing is that I've never read a scary YA horror book. They've all seemed very...not-scary to me. Maybe I'm just reading the wrong books.
The Dead House was a great read, I love the epistolary format of it. I had no idea that Creeper Man and And The Trees Crept In were the same book though! I am a crap blogger, apparently. I think I like the cover for The Creeper Man more, it's so atmospheric and chilling. Not sure if I will get around to actually reading many horror books this Halloween-- but I might try at a couple of short stories.
I don't really read horror, but these look creepy! I'd probably avoid most of these.
I love reading horror books IF they do the genre justice, I hate it when the book becomes a mashup of genres just so because they think anything else would be to terrible for young adult readers. Then it's not horror anymore. The covers you've picked look absolutely gorgeous though! When I say gorgeous, I mean terrifying. Like the cover alone would be enough to make me lose sleep over aha.
My recent post What am I? A Sheep. | 4 Books I Haven't Read, Because Someone Else Hates Them
I actually really want to read Shutter (although that cover is terrifying), but the others I've not really heard of - apart from Stalking Jack the Ripper rather recently.

I too am not a particular fan of scary books. Such a wimp! :(
My recent post Sci-Fi Month 2016: Almost Time For Lift-Off!
I really liked Last Seen Leaving which I wasn't sure about because like you said YA mystery/thrillers are rarely very good. The rest I probably wouldn't pick up either - horror or scary books aren't my thing.
