An Innocent Life #17: How Is It Already October?

THIS IS HALLOWEEN. THIS IS HALLOWEEN. HALLOWEEN HALLOWEEN.

I am always really excited for the fall, because it gets a little bit cooler, there's pumpkins and pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin flavored cookies and pumpkin candles. PUMPKIN MUFFINS. Everything is a pumpkin and it is wonderful.

Have I opened up Crooked Kingdom yet? No. Not yet. Holly is screaming at me silently, but there's just so much hype around it, I am scared! I should just go for it I suppose. Though it's just so bold and pretty with its red pages. I should take more photos.

More links! Though I'll probably start limiting them from next month on, to maybe my top five. I don't know what I'm doing let's be honest.

Cynthia @ Bingeing on Books asks when do you decide to abandon a book? (For me it's when I'm not already invested in it, which sadly is with almost every book I read, whoops)

Jeann @ Happy Indulgence discusses when diversity actually isn't diverse. (I can't even get my thoughts together for this, it's that complex)

And off of that, CW @ Read Think Ponder comments on misrepresentation vs. no representation in books. (Which I also have a ton of thoughts on too!)

Shannon @ It Starts At Midnight (and I) will be setting our Goodreads Challenge to 1 next year. Just kidding, I think only I am doing that. But she talks about why there is such a rush to read all the books. Oh, and she also talks about Bookstagram woes hahah. And also removing favorite books from your shelf because they are...no longer favorites. *sobs*

Michelle @ Tea & Titles wants to achieve a zero TBR!

Becky @ A Fool's Ingenuity talks about her blogging problems (which I definitely share)

I changed my Twitter picture. It's me and my cat now (Primrose).

We are obviously best buds. She is basically me in cat form. The little squish.

Grad school is a little bit hectic, but I'm absolutely loving it. At times. The social life is great though. I feel like I am going out at least once or twice a week. I HAVE FRIENDS. Really my main obstacle is coming up with a first year research project. But now that I have narrowed it down to an idea, I'm hoping I can stick with that!

Unfortunately, I've had less time to do, anything really. Though I guess it's about the same as college/undergrad, so not that much difference. I am currently reading Replica by Lauren Oliver, and do you know where the main character lives? Chapel Hill! Where I am! Right now! (Don't stalk me). So that was a nice surprise!

Also, how is it already October? How?

Thanks Nicole! And yess the pages are gorgeous! I just want to take all the pictures of it!
Oh that's so cool the book is set where you are! THAT IS AMAZING. I've never lived in a place a book is set.😂 Although I have gone to a few places mentioned in books, but stillll. That's awesome for you! :D AND YOUR CAT IS ADORABLE AND YOU ARE TOO. ALSO SIX OF CROWS IS EVERYTHING AJFDAKSFDLJ.😂 Although I do understand the hype can be a bit daunting *nods* I'm lucky that I read it when it first came out and, I mean, there was some hype, but not as much as there is now. hhaha. Anyway. Good luck!!

Hahaha thanks! Yeah there is so much hype now that the second (and last) is out. I'm in the middle of it now but I don't know if I want to finish it! WE'LL SEE
I love when books are set in places I know. It makes me like them a bit more for some reason. And I love that picture of you and your cat, she's so cute! It sucks your life has gotten a little hectic but it sounds like you have a plan and know what you need to do so that's always good. It was inevitable grad school was going to take over a bit at some point.

Same here! Even though it didn't take place there most of the time, I recognized one of the streets mentioned, actually two streets I think, and that made me happy hahah. Though I disagree that Chapel Hill is a boring place. It's a college town. Meaning you need to be 21 hahaha. And yeah, grad school was definitely going to take over at some point. Seems like it is now, sadness.
Lovely cat, lovely Val. :)

I just picked up Crooked Kingdom yesterday so I can't wait to dive in. I hope it won't hurt as much. *fingers crossed*.

Happy reading!

Thanks Joy! I'm still in the middle of Crooked Kingdom, but it has been amazing so far! I'm just scared to finish it haha.
Oh my, this song is stuck in my head as well, because IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR!! Actually, we don't really celebrate Halloween in France, but I'll do a little party with myself. I bought a cute little pumpkin because obviously I needed it. Yes, I totally agree with you, life is so hectic!! I'm starting a new internship in two weeks and I have no idea how I'll read when I'll have to balance school and my research project. I'm terrified. But it's fine, at least we're not bored, haha. I hope you'll have a happy October, Val! :)

IT IS THAT TIME OF YEAR. And NOooooo Halloween is the best holiday! Except I don't think I'm going to dress up for it hahaha. I just like the atmosphere. OMG GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW INTERNSHIP. It's tough to balance, but you can make time for anything hahaha :) I hope you have a happy October too Lucie!
Ahhh Val! Thank you so so so much for sharing my post. You are wonderful!

Oh my goodness, that SoC duology box... it's beautiful. *U* I've yet to pick up Crooked Kingdom for the same reasons! Hype scares me. I generally don't like hyped up things (even though all the reviews have been GLOWING and I haven't seen a negative review yet). Have you started reading though?

GAH your cat is adorable!! Her facial expression is just too precious too, it made me laugh, hehe.

Ohh! How is grad school? Sorry for my ignorance, but what are you pursuing/studying? I'm thinking of returning to study next year but ugrhghhh life decisions. X(

Hahaha you're welcome CW! Yes the box is absolutely beautiful. I am in the middle of Crooked Kingdom, but I haven't gotten so far in yet. I don't know, I just don't want it to end. I've been at the same place for a week now, because I am reading other books, because I don't want my babies to get hurt!

Yes she REALLY didn't want to be in my arms. Or was confused as to why she was hahha.

I am studying language production, or cognitive psychology! What will you be returning to?
PUMPKINS EVEEERYWHERE. But seriously, how is October already? Better yet, how is October almost halfway over already? omg where have my days gone, how it is almost 2017? I feel like none of us will be able to breathe until after the election is over too, thank god it's almost November. I AM ready to get out of this horrible and awful year, but I also don't want time moving so fast. It's a conundrum. h e l p

That picture is seriously the most adorable thing.
