Guest Post: World War II TBR

For today, I am happy to introduce, Grace @ Rebel Mommy Book Blog, who will be talking about her WWII TBR! I have actually read all of these books, and I will admit, they are all fantastic. Also as a reminder, you can comment on this post, follow Grace via Twitter and Bloglovin, and have that all count towards entries in the event's giveaway!

If you asked me at the beginning of last year or before that, I would tell you that I didn’t read or enjoy historical fiction. I had no interest in it. Until I did. From The Nightingale, to The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society to Unbroken I was totally taken with setting of World War II. There are so many stories to be told from that time and now I want to read them all! But for now these six are on my immediate TBR.

Have you read any of these? Which WWII books are on your TBR?

Grace loves books and really just wants to talk (or type if we are getting technical) about them. Her preferred reads are contemporary fiction, chick lit, new adult and young adult (and sometimes paranormal romance on occasion). When she is not reading, she is either watching TV or listening to EW radio talk about TV on SiriusXM. You can also find her at  Rebel Mommy Book Blog.

These are all books on my TBR!! Especially the Ruta Sepetys books - i've heard such good things about them. I'm going to be reading The Nightingale later this week and I'm so excited for it. It got picked as my work book club book and the few people who have talked to me about it have said they loved it. It's honestly been way too long since I read a WWII book so I'm really excited about it.
Hello, Grace! I have read The Book Thief and I'll be reading Code Name Verity soon. Perhaps I shall bump it up on my TBR list in honour of this event :) I also really liked the Guernsey Potato Peel Pie Society. It shows a different side of the World War, which was quite nice.

I loved Code Name Verity and The Book Thief! And I'm just starting All The Light We Cannot See. I actually don't know the other three, and now need to go check them out!

That's a great WWII TBR! I loved Code Name Verity, The Book Thief, All the Light We Cannot See, and Salt to the Sea. Now that I've read some Ruta Sepetys I totally want to read more of her books.

Thanks Val for putting this together and letting me add a post to the event!! Plus I just got All the Light We Cannot See from the library so I will soon be able to knock that off my list :)

The Book Thief is one of my favorite books ever and I loved All the light we cannot see! Both Code Name Verity and Salt to the sea are on my TBR as well. I really need to read Unbroken. I can't believe I haven't read that one yet.

I know I shouldn't be surprised, but i'm impressed you've read all of these books Val! I too will read them all someday.

This seems like a pretty essential WW2 guideline to go by. :) They all look so good, particularly Between Shades of Grey, Salt To the Sea and All The Light We Cannot See, it may just be because they're all blue though. ;)

Probably going to add most of these to my To Read list, except possibly The Book Thief -- I tried reading it after the movie came out but found the style a bit disappointing. I would also suggest adding Diana Armstrong's "Nocturne" as well. It tells the story of a young woman involved in the Warsaw ghetto uprising, and is really well done. "Schindler's Ark" by Thomas Keneally is another good one; it's the book that the movie Schindler's List was based on. I'm reading it at the moment and it's quite fascinating. Another couple I have my eye on are "The Dark Room" by Rachel Seiffert and John Boyne's "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas." One of these days I'll actually reduce the To Read pile instead of increase it, honest...
