Books For Cat Lovers

Hello there. I am dedicating this post to my cat, Primrose, because she’s such a precious baby. Plus, she wanted to take over my computer (opening tabs are her specialty), probably to talk about how much she loved the book The Great Catsby. Anyways, since cats are so awesome, today I’ll be showcasing nine books that feature cats in them!

So Mr. Kindly may not really be a cat, but any shadow-y figure taking the form of a cat gets a spot in my heart.

I LOVE MOGGET. I mean can I say that enough times? He's kind of the reason why I kept reading the Abhorsen series? Plus he is feature in all the books: Sabriel, Lirael, and Abhorsen.

I actually have never read The Princess Diaries, but have seen it enough time to know that Fat Louie is a cutie.

LYING CAT, WHO KNOWS WHETHER YOU'RE LYING OR NOT. Lying Cat is also one of my favorite parts of this comic. Also if you haven't read Saga, what are you doing with your life?

Shannon told me about this book, since I was asking about cats and such. Apparently the cat's name is Fleayoncé Knowles.

I'm honestly blanking on the name here. Grim? Ah wait it's Grimalkin I think. But I remember reading about this fairy cat, and AGAIN, one of the main reasons why I continued with The Iron Fey series. Had to suffer through the love triangle for THIS CAT. The things I DO.

I was reminded by Shannon that The Hunger Games indeed has a cat in it. This is funny seeing as Primrose's name is from The Hunger Games (I am 99% sure, I think). Funny thing is that I no longer associate Primrose with Katniss' sister. NOPE she is just my lump of a cat!

Cannot forget about Crookshanks! Who I think first appeared in the third book!

Alice in Wonderland
Lastly, there's also the Chesire Cat! I need to get to this book at some point because I have only watched the Disney movie. Yet I know Alice in Wonderland is everywhere in the book community! Plus there's a bunch of book merchandise for it.

Nine books for nine lives!
Can you think of any more that have cats in them?

Wow. I did such a great job with helping on this post. I also came up with the 9 books/9 lives thing, people reading this. And who even forgets BUTTERCUP? That scene with her in Mockingjay like, MAKES the damn book. She's a HERO, Val. A damn hero.

You have not read the Princess Diaries?!! YOU HAVE TO, it's such a classic ahah, at least it was for me, I remember my early teenage years reading these books and loving them. Fat Louis IS a cutie ahah.
A cat named Fleayoncé Knowles??! Okay, this book was already on my TBR, but... I want to read it even more now ahah. This is a great post, Valerie <3

I'm not a huge of fan of pets, but I love, love, love Crookshanks from the Harry Potter series! I think part of it is just the fact that Crookshanks is a part of the Harry Potter world and I adore the series, but I forgot about pets in those books until I saw your post. On a similar note-- completely forgot about the cat in The Hunger Games until now. This was a really creative post idea!

Oh I ADORE Mister Kindly. I think he's the perfect ever cat because he's so snarky but also loving. :') And I also love the Cheshire cat because I adore all things Wonderland. 😂😂

(And I totally understand how you can give your pet a literary name and then forget it is.😂 I named my dog Atticus but I barely ever remember Atticus Finch now. If I hear "Atticus" I'm just thinking about my troublesome cute pupper who is the best and worst simultaneously.😂😂)

YESSSS the lying cat is definitely my favourite along with Mister Kindly! I actually didn't realise there were so many great cat characters in books but you've listed some great ones!

This is great. I was watching The Hunger Games for the first time in a while the other day and I had totally forgotten about that cat who hated Katniss! Hilarious! I am a cat person. I've had my cat-son since before the kids were born. ANd according to Santa, he has a new baby brother coming to join the family at Christmas (shhhhhh).

Fleayonce Knowles is the bestest ever. I wish the book had more cat in it though, I might have enjoyed it more. I don't mind cats but I'm a dog person. I love books with sassy animals in general though. I'm surprised more characters in young adult especially don't have pets. It's not normal. Weirdos.

Good cat lists! I admit I adore Mogget from Sabriel (and the entire series). Cruickshanks and Fat Louie are also important cat characters, I will give you that. I actually can't think of all that many books which feature a cat which makes me a little sad as mine is the bane of my existence and I love his furry little butt. I would like to cart him around as a hot water bottle this winter if at all possible but I think he would use his claws to object to that treatment.

You did a great job putting this list of catty books together. I have actually read some! I would add Blitzcat to the list... it has always been one of my favorites since I was a kid.
Hi Valerie!

thanks for sharing this article

Very sweet of you to write a post in honor of your Cat

I don't know if you have heard of Cat Language Bible? I'm sure Primrose would love that because it's all about how you can talk to your Cat and tell them you love them Lol

Here's a review of it which actually looks really good.. https://catloverhere.com/2018/04/25/cat-language-... What do you think? Have you read it before? It does look interesting :)

Anyways, keep up the good work!
