Books I Need To Get To (Because It’s Already Freaking October)

Gonna be honest, I didn’t have as many anticipated releases as I usually do this year. And the ones that I did have (cough Starfish cough) I have already read. I might later do a post on my disappointing reads of 2017, but for now, I want to showcase the ones that I still haven’t gotten to yet. Because it’s ALREADY OCTOBER and how did the year pass by so quickly? (Also, I feel like everyone is already focusing on 2018, and I’m just like “hold your horses”).

This year, I managed to read 41 out of 88 of the books on my 2017 releases Goodreads shelf. I know, compared to like…Shannon, 88 is a really small number. But to be honest I just haven’t really been paying attention to new releases. But next year I’ll try harder :D

But without further ado, here are the books I want to get to before the year ends!

I don’t think I have read a bad review of this yet. And also the cover is so pretty? AND I WANT TO READ ABOUT THE GOBLIN KING, which reminds me of another book, Stolen Songbird, which is pretty popular? So I kind of wonder how similar the two are.

I even pre-ordered this, but just HAVEN’T gotten to this one yet. Why? I’m not really sure? I think mainly because I’m scared that I’m going to be so annoyed by the males in this novel, that I’m not ready for it? Like I am not ready for the sexism. BUT because it probably is so empowering, I really don’t have anything to fear. SO hopefully I will read it soon!

I reaaaally want to read this because a) cover is super shiny and I cannot get over shiny things and b) it’s kind of about parallel universes. Or something. Either way it’s something cool, and I need it.

Not going to lie, but I DID try reading this at Shannon’s place. And I am willing to give it another shot. BUT TO BE FAIR, I don’t think it exactly sat well with me that a well-known character from my childhood (aka the monkey king) reincarnated into a super hot-looking dude. LIKE IT’S JUST WEIRD TO ME OK? I JUST NEED TO GET OVER IT.

I have a problem with finishing series, and the same holds true for duologies. Also, I’m hesitant because I’m not sure I need to reread the first book? So I’m just…waiting, until I decide what to do…

This book screams me but because I don’t have a copy of it (yet, I guess), I haven’t gotten to it. Right now, it is on my “To Buy ASAP” list. BUT YES. SPACE. SPAAAAACE.

My best friend has my copy of it right now, but I’m almost scared to read it because I just know it’ll hit me hard. Fun fact, the author will be visiting my former high school. So, guess we’ll see how that goes (to give context, I went to a private school in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania. One time, some sort of activist came to talk at our school, and these rando conservatives on Twitter got super salty about it. My best friend engaged with them online so she knows more about it than I do).

Been anticipating this since my Australian blogging buddos gushed about how good it was. So, this is definitely high on my list.
I still don’t know why I haven’t read this. I think it’s because every time I think about it, there’s something else that I need to read? And this just keeps getting pushed further and further down the list.

Surprise, still have not read this, and I don’t know why. Well, just kidding, I do. It’s mainly because of the hype monster. This was wayyyy too hyped up back in January, which is why I just…haven’t gotten to it yet.

And that’s it (well no it isn’t, but gotta stop somewhere). What 2017 releases do you still need to read?

Ooh, you have some great ones on your list! THUG and Upside are two of my absolute favorites of 2017. Moxie was a lot of fun, too. I didn't love Wintersong, but it's really original! Our Dark Duet kinda fell flat as a series-ender for me, but I think you should definitely still read it if you liked This Savage Song. I also need to get to The Epic Crush of Genie Lo!

SO MANY OF THESE WERE AMAZING! Wintersong was really lushly written and brought all the FEELS... and broke my hearts. *sobs* Moxie is, hands down, one of my all time favorite books, right alongside THUG - both being really empowering and having a fantastic female lead. Caraval was really lovely in some ways, but kinda meh in others, but I'm totally the minority here, so I really hope you'll still love it. OOh, Genie Lo is SO FUNNY omg, hope you'll pick it up again! Good luck with your TBR! Also, wow, you've read so many 2017 releases, I'm impressed. :)

Tip #1- Don't read THUG on a plane. Just don't do it. Unless you want to freak out the people around you by crying. Anyway. You know my feelings on this.

If you want Sci-Fi... you read Defy the Stars
If you want Fantasy... you read Wintersong
If you want contemporary cuteness... you read Upside.

I still need to read... like 200 2017 releases so I am a mess. I should go through my Goodreads shelves actually...
I liked The Epic Crush of Genie Lo, but I also thought the Monkey King being a hot contemporary teenage human dude was weird. The story worked better if I halfway ignored that...which is hard considering it's kind of a main plot point and all that.

Jane, Unlimited was pretty polarizing for me. I liked the first two stories (possible universes, or whatever we're calling them), but I thought the second half of the book kind of went off the deep end.
AHHHHHHHHHH. Sorry. I'm screaming because I just ordered and received Words in Deep Blue, it is one of these books that I so wanted to read for a while and I can't wait to get to it either. It sounds fantastic and like the kind of book I could love, but... I also got a feeling that I will probably cry while reading this, so... I don't know if I am ready for it.
I can't wait for you to read THUG, it is such a fantastic and important book. I'm also eager to hear your thoughts on Caraval - that book was WAY too hyped back in January, which is why I ended up a bit disappointed by it all :/
I feel like now it's all about 2018 releases and I'm just like you. People need to slow things down, it's not even December and there are so many books to read ahahah :)
Great post! xx
There are so many 2017 releases I need to read, and some I haven't even managed to get my hands on. It's ridiculous really. I also need to read Out Dark Duet and The Epic Crush of Genie Lo. I own one but not the other so that needs to be remedied. Words in Deep Blue isn't out until next year here so at least I don't have to feel guilty over that.

I'm impressed with how many on your list I have read, though. Moxie is a fantastic feminist read. Wintersong is very slow moving but atmospheric and so beautiful. THUG will make you want to go out and kick some ass and generally make you outraged this the events in this book are still a reality in 2017! What the hell? The Upside of Unrequited is amazing and sweet and made me realise I hadn't read Simon so I had to go read that too. Albertalli is definitely becoming a must-read author for me. Caraval may not live up to all the hype going on for it but it is a really enjoyable read. I liked it far more than I thought I would, to be honest. Give it a chance.
*subtly pushes Words in Deep Blue towards you* Ahem...nothing to see here!
Words in Deep Blue is beautiful, I think you'll absolutely adore it. Super swoony too. I'm honestly the only reader I know who liked Caraval. I was happy I read it before the hype but so many Aussie bloggers thought it was rubbish. BOOOOOO. Moxie is fabulous too. I think most are on my to read list as well Val, I'm desperate to read Wintersong. Nice work on plowing through those reads this year, brilliant! <3
Wintersong is absolutely amazing, and hope you enjoy it as much as I did if you end up reading it. :) And I still need to read the Upside of Unrequited too! Thanks for sharing and, as always, fabulous post! <3
