Top Ten Tuesday #100 (Yay!)

Hosted by the Broke and the Bookish!

Ten Underrated/Hidden Gem Books I've Read In The Past Year Or So

This is just going to be underrated books I read during the year of the garbage fire, and not ones released during 2016. Sadly I didn't have such a great time with the new releases. Hopefully 2017 will be better in that regard!

Also I think I'm going to define underrated as under 1000 ratings. Plus I did already do this post a couple of months ago, so I am only limiting this to 5 books! Because then it would be too repetitive.

I really liked Iron Cast, especially the cover. I did see a little bit of hype on my Twitter feed, but it definitely wasn't as much as some other books coming out at the time!

The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl was first published in Australia, but then finally made its debut in the US, for which I am pretty thankful for. Looking back, I think I expected more from it, but in the end I really enjoyed it.

I can't believe Return Once More is not more popular. I don't think it helps that the pub did little to no publicity, PLUS they dropped the sequel. Luckily the sequel is self-pubbed and is on Amazon.

This next one is interesting. Everything Is Teeth is a graphic novel about a little girl obsessed with sharks and shark attacks. It was interesting. I may not have understood the message, but it was UNIQUE.

Lastly, and this one is decently popular on Twitter, there's Timekeeper! I actually really liked this one, and I have been having really good luck with Sky Pony Press. I hope this streak keeps up!

Have you read any good underrated books? I hope to read more this year!

I have not read any of these, Val. The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl looks interesting.

Thanks for sharing!

"Return Once More" is one I remember reading about back when it first released. I don't remember what it was about, but it's one I'll have to revisit thanks to spotting it again on your list. :)

I remember Return Once More when it was still called The Historians, and then it took forever to come out. I didn't know the pub dropped the sequel though? Man she got a raw deal from them seems like! I think Shannon at It Starts At Midnight has pushed this one but I haven't seen it too many other places, that's too bad.

Timekeeper does sound good.

Iron Cast was SO good!! I still need to read Cinnamon Girl (lol, I abbreviated because I'm lazy) && I've never heard of Everything Is Teeth, but it sounds so phenomenal. I'm starting to get into graphic novels. I have an e-arc of Timekeeper, and I'm so excited to start it because I've heard nothing but great things! <3

How about "Shannon made me read Return Once More and I owe my life's success to her"? I mean, REALLY. HRMPH. I agree with you though. Also, Iron Cast for sure. I am mad and leaving your blog now bye.

This is a new book which I read this year and it doesn't have as much hype around it as I would like and that is A Quiet Kind Of Thunder by Sara Barnard which is absolutely amazing!

Return once more has been on my list for a long time - as has Iron cast. Hopefully I will get to read these next year! For me the book I found really underrated last year was Riders by Veronica Rossi

I'm looking forward to reading Iron Cast and Timekeeper! I was underwhelmed with Cinnamon Girl too, I thought it would be more aboust superheroes and less about a contemporary heroine lol.
Woah, Return Once More sounds so interesting? I can't believe I haven't stumbled upon it before, it sounds amazing! It's always a pity when books that have amazing potential, just don't have enough publicity for them to explore that potential :( At least I found it through your post though!
I was a massive fan of The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl too Val, being an Aussie book and all. I think I like the Aussie cover a little better though, it's very pop artish. I actually just bought Iron Cast the other day and super excited to crack it open, even more now seeing how much you enjoyed it <3
I haven't read any of those, but I'm very intrigued by both Iron Cast and Timekeeper based on what's appeared on GR over the past year.
