Top Ten Tuesday #89

Hosted by the Broke and the Bookish!

Ten Books That Have Been On Your Shelf (TBR) From Before You Started Blogging That You STILL Haven't Read Yet

I'm sure there's a lot. But this will be slightly tricky for me because I have moved, leaving some books behind in boxes back at my parents' home. Also, before I started blogging, I was in this mindset where I thought I had to read adult books because I was growing up (I was like 15 haha).

Actually now that I've thought about it, I read many books right after I bought or borrowed them. I was so responsible as a youngin' back then! I really can't think of any books I bought and didn't read, except for the first two on this list!

I received 11/22/63 for Christmas because it features time travel, and I love time travel. It's also 800+ pages long. Which is slightly daunting. And one of the reasons why I haven't read it yet.

I cheated a bit, because I did end up reading half of Inkdeath, the last book in the Inkheart series. But I don't remember any of it. And I do really want to get back into it because the first book was one of my absolute favorites. So much that I reread it many, many times.

For some reason 1Q84 was the first book ever added on my Goodreads back in 2012. I have never read 1984. I was just obsessed with Haruki Murakami in theory. (I say in theory because I have only ever read one book by him, then declared my love because I felt that I didn't have many authors I loved.)

I actually added Between Shades of Gray before I knew I had an obsession with WWII. I now have a copy of the book, though I have yet to read it whoops.

Also added If I Stay back in 2012. Not sure why. Mainly because it was super popular and all over Goodreads, so I was like why not. I'm not sure if I would want to read it now.

Ah, Life After Life was added because I wanted to feel like an adult at the tender age of 16. Again, I thought I had to read adult books because I was growing up. Little did I know that this wasn't true at all.

I did borrow A Discovery of Witches from the library, but never got to it. Is it actually any good? Used to hear all about it back when I only looked at the avg. Goodreads rating.

I'm not sure if I added The Rosie Project before I started blogging, but it's been on my Goodreads TBR for awhile. It's another one of those books where I thought I could only read adult books as an adult.

And same with Cloud Atlas! I mean I'm sure the book is good and all, but meh. It would take me awhile.  And I'm not in the mood.

I also felt like I needed to read more classics in my life, so The Picture of Dorian Gray is also on the list.

Where you as responsible as me? I mean I'm not anymore but I have money now, so that plays a role in buying and not reading whoops.

I also want to read IQ84, but I think that book deserves a lot of attention and investment so I've pretty much avoided it like the plague. I've read a couple of his short novels, though. And I can see the brilliance everyone's talked about. Oh, I love The Rosie Project, Val. The character is unintentionally funny and his candid observations about the world is so brilliant. I hope you'll read it soon!

I hope I get to the Rosie Project as well! I think if I see it at the library I'll check it out. And yeah I think I might stick to his short novels, because I love his writing (after reading one book LOL).
I love A Discovery of Witches.

That's awesome! I'll have to check it out sooner then!
I've only read THE ROSIE PROJECT from your list. It's a hilarious book. I loved it. I've heard the sequel isn't nearly as good, so I haven't picked it up yet ...

Happy TTT!

Ahh I see! Ok I might just stick with the first book. I didn't really know there was a sequel to be honest hahaha
aaaahhhh, I hope you read Between Shades of Gray soon!! It's my all time fave historical fiction (heck, it's the historical fiction that got me reading more of them!). I'm really interested to read 11/22/63 because of the plot but then I don't ever buy it because I'm having the same issue as you - the scary 800 pages!

I WILL SOON. I absolutely loved Salt to the Sea so I'm positive I will sob over her other book (is it her debut? I don't even know). Hahaha I know! I'm really interested in the plot but there are way too many pages and I don't know! I have it though, but it'll be hard to hold up HAHA
Yes, yes, I used to obtain books for the actual purpose of reading them in a relatively appropriate time frame. It's only since blogging that I have this collection of seemingly "to-never-read" books on my shelf. I also did a Goodreads clean up a few months ago where I tried to be real with myself. Like "look asshole, you didn't read it 4 years ago, and I doubt you'll read it now, so say goodbye". I do want to do this post after #SS, just to see which I haven't had the heart to get rid of 😂

Wow really. You? I cannot even imagine. And wow you already put them in the to-never-read book pile. I ALSO DID A CLEAN UP. LOL wow why are you so harsh. I mean usually I'll keep whatever I have physically on my TBR, but I see you didn't care fo that.
Oh If I Stay was REALLY good. That one is a must read. I did enjoy Between Shades of Gray, but I think I loved Salt to the Sea a lot more. I think you'll enjoy it though.

I'll probably enjoy it the same because it's WWII haha. AND OOO ok that's good to hear! The hype had gotten to me way before, when it turned into a movie I think? So yeah I just kept putting it off hahah.
11/22/63 has been on mine too (love TT). I've put off watching the mini-series based on it until I've read it. And 1Q84 ... yup, I also want to read it. Great list.

Wait there is a mini-series based off of it? I had no idea that's pretty awesome! But yeah I guess I'll wait until I read the book first haha
Ah we share two today - Discovery of Witches and Life After Life. I am not sure if I will ever get to either. The Rosie Project is really cute and quick and worth trying. DO NOT pick up the sequel!

OK THIS IS THE SECOND WARNING I'VE GOTTEN ABOUT THE SEQUEL. Wow. I really want to read Life After Life but it seems very very long!
I used to be a LOT more responsible with my book-acquiring habits too.😂 OLD AGE HAS GOTTEN TO ME AND I JUST WANT ALL THE BOOKS OF EVER...plus library sales, omg. My library has just had a ridiculous amount of sales this year. I blame them. Definitely their fault. How can I say no to 50cent books, hmm? Ahem. ANYWAY. We are twinning for Inkheart/Inkdeath and I really want to read Between Shades of Grey too!! I think I initially avoided it because I got it confused with another book of similar title HAHAHHA. I know. How did that even happen? This is a WWII YA book. But whatever.😂 I'll read it eventually!! *tries not to die under enormous TBR*

Hahahah I know right? It's just nice to be surrounded by books, even though you'll end up never reading them! Oh I need to visit book sales, I did last year but there wasn't a very nice selection. ANYWAYS. YES to Inkheart/Inkdeath and I'm sad that I'll probably never get to it haha. DID YOU GET IT CONFUSED WITH 50 SHADES OF GREY omg.
I don't know what has been on my TBR that long. Maybe a bunch of Ste[hen King books? You have a nice list here of different/popular reads. I hope you get to them soon... happy reading!

Hahah I hope I get to them soon! Thanks Karen!
I've heard of most of these! It's interesting how you said you thought you had to read adult books at 15, I saw someone make a thread on Twitter about that exact thing.

I've heard of most of these books! I want to read 1Q84, it should so interesting and I love the thought of someone from Asia writing a take on 1984.

YOU NEED TO READ IF I STAY. I think I told you this before. I remember seeing this book in the bookstore in 2012 and reading both summaries, then by the time I read them, I forgot all about what I'd read in the summary, which is good.

Also, you need to read the sequel, which I loved even more than If I Stay. They're both so good. I had to read Where She Went right after If I Stay (which I stayed up all night to finish then read Where She Went five minutes later).

I'm interested in Life After Life, mostly because of the pretty cover, but I've heard some somewhat negative reviews about it so, we'll see.

I haven't heard of A Discovery of Witches. I have heard Cloud Atlas is good, at least, the movie anyway. I've heard of The Rosie Project as well but kind of hesitant because I heard the sequel isn't that great?

I have money but I don't buy any books. I should change that.

Awwww good for you hahaha. And yeah I don't know what I was thinking. I think I was in the mindset that it was a required thing or whatever hmmm. AND OK I WILL READ IF I STAY AT SOME POINT. And wow I didn't even know there was a sequel. I am so misinformed hahaha.

You heard negative things about Life After Life? Wow I only have seen good things about it (like once).

Yeah I've heard from above the sequel to the Rosie Project is horrible, so I'll just skip it :)
I have A Discovery of Witches on my shelf too. I've heard great things, but I just haven't gotten to it. I honestly can't remember which books have been on my TBR since pre-blogging, but I'm sure I have some random ones on my shelf. They've gotten pushed aside since I have so many new books!
