Top Ten Tuesday #56

Hosted by the Broke and the Bookish!

Top Five Books I Plan To Have In My Beach Bag This Summer

That is if I end up going to the beach this summer! Seriously, being all the way in Upstate NY for the summer means NO BOSTON and NO ATLANTIC OCEAN. I guess I have Lake Ontario but meh. I might just have to change this to "porch reads" HAHA.

I know that beach reads implies "happy, fluffy reads", but I don't really like to read those. I cherish my sob stories hahah. But I'll try to add that ONE happy read. Ha. Haha.

Mosquitoland by David Arnold - I know, this is supposed to be sad too! Even though it is supposed to be funny. I don't know, it has to do with road trips so I think I will count it as a summer and beach read. HA.

Emmy And Oliver by Robin Benway - According to all the reviews I've been reading, this is supposed to be more light-hearted than it sounds. SO it goes on this short list. Ha.

A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall - Clearly this is the only true fluffy contemporary on the list, and even then that probably isn't true. HA. But come on, 14 viewpoints of two people getting together? What is the worse that could happen?

I'll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson - LOOK. IT HAS THE WORD "SUN" IN THE TITLE!

Life In Outer Space by Melissa Keil - I'm sad that this is hard to find in the US, I guess I'll just have to get it through Amazon. I know for sure my library doesn't have it!

Under a Painted Sky by Stacey Lee - Because OREGON TRAIL and also CHINESE AMERICANS! That's me! Even though I'm half.

Burying Water by K. A. Tucker - I have this on my kindle and because of my persuasive little blogger friends, I'm going to read it soon.

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge - Also have this on my kindle because YAY AMAZON SALES. And after reading Crimson Bound, I'm going to read all of her books!

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon - Allergies? I think this describes summer and spring pretty well.

Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley - I recently heard this was about bird people. IS THIS TRUE. Because that would be super amazing! And birds = summer. Look at all these connections I'm making hahaha.

Well I guess I'll be sobbing at the beach. Is it just me, or are more and more books turning out more and more sad?

Anyone mind recommending me ACTUAL HAPPY FLUFFY reads?

Love this list! There are so many that are on my TBR. Burying Water is on my kindle and just haven't found the time. I have been eyeing Emmy &Oliver for sometime now as well. And you had be dying on Everything Everything because allergies is spring and summer in my house as well. Great picks!

I'm glad you stayed true to yourself on this list, Val! :) I also like that you included a book about allergies, HA.

Hahah but a book about allergies is perfect! :D

I’ll Give You the Sun will make you cry, but some will be happy tears!

That’s about all I can give you, lol. The rest are pretty sad, from what I hear. Make sure you bring some tissues to the beach ;)

HAPPY TEARS? THERE IS SUCH A THING?

Hahaha I'll just wash away my tears in the ocean
I'LL GIVE YOU THE SUN IS SO GOOD THAT BOOK IS SO. SO. SO. GOOD. I didn't know if I would love it in the first half but then the second half came along and I was like "oh god what has this book done to me" and it was one of my 2015 favorites! (I know, I know - I had an ARC of it and STILL waited until 2015 to read it.) So highly recommended. :D

I want to read Mosquitoland but just haven't gotten around to it. Pretty much everyone seemed to really enjoy it so I have high hopes it'll be an interesting read. If not I'll definitely be disappointed. I hope you end up reading it and enjoying it!

Magonia is definitely on my list just because that COVER. But I'm hoping I love it as much as everyone else has. :D

I HEARD HOW AWESOME THAT BOOK IS. And thanks for the heads up about the first half haha. I WILL STILL READ IT AND STICK WITH IT.

I want to read it as well but I also haven't gotten to it even though I've had it for awhile now. I really hope it's super interesting too. SAME WITH MAGONIA
HAHAHA. I'm not a fluffy reader myself. I tend to lean on psychologically dark books but I do read romance though...hmmmm....what to recommend that's not dark and twisty...

Oh, I know! It's not YA but I really enjoyed The Hooker and The Hermit. That's the lightest book I've read recently lol. I really want to read Mosquitoland too, and I have an audiobook of Cruel Beauty and I always swear I'll pick it up next but I'm not on a listening mood right now! :-/

I just don't like fluffy reads to be honest hahaha. I LOVE SAD READS sometimes. And I'll check out The Hooker and The Hermit! Hahah!

I'm never in the listening mood :(
"Porch reads" HA! I demand you go back and change your title! Just kidding. And hey, I'd kill (a fly) to be in Upstate NY for the summer! :)

Oh my gosh, I haven't read any of these, yet I own two of them and have two eARCS. I should seriously get to reading! Gosh. I am really into A Little Something Different and Everything Everything, they just sound so fluffy and awesome.

HALF IS HALF. Yep.

Allergies does describe summer and spring, ugh.

Books are totally getting sadder and sadder or darker…some are happy. I think. I'm sure they are. Some of them. Not a lot. Everyone knows sad books are better than happy books.

REALLY. YOU WANT TO BE WITH ME IN UPSTATE NY? :)

It's ok I haven't read any of these either, HA. But at least I have most of them. AND I HIGHLY DOUBT EVERYTHING EVERYTHING IS FLUFFY. And yes sad books are better than happy books
I THINK IT WOULDN'T BE AWFUL. HAHA.

Aw, that is a plus that you own most of them. I'M PRETTY SURE EVERYTHING EVERYTHING 'IS' FLUFFY. I love sad books, even though they make me sad.
