No Review Required (Fantasy Reads!)

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump these past few weeks due to the stress of the end of the semester. And even though that’s ALL over, I still haven’t recovered. But nevertheless, I’m going to aim to post the same amount as I did in November.

Here are two reads that I have been highly anticipating since they both came out!

I didn’t get to Wintersong until now because I simply just did not have the book. But then I traded for it, and I finally got to read it over Thanksgiving break! And safe to say, I was pretty impressed!

“There is music in your soul. A wild and untamed sort of music that speaks to me. It defies all the rules and laws you humans set upon it. It grows from inside you, and I have a wish to set that music free.”

The plot itself revolves around music, and I was amazed and surprised of the depth in which classical music is explored. But really, I think anything less would have felt superficial. Plus it definitely helped with both the world-building AND the character development. I cannot even imagine Liesl without her love of composing music.

Yet, this didn’t end up being a full 5 stars from me because 1) I wasn’t fully invested in the relationship between Liesl and the Goblin King. Like it was developed, but I guess I just didn’t ship them as much as I thought I would? And 2) it kind of dragged on for a bit. I grew a bit bored of how slow the plot became. But overall, really solid read!

HELLO THERE NEW FAVORITE BOOK. I don’t think there was ONE THING I disliked about Uprooted. IT WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED AND MORE! I honestly don’t even know where to start! (why oh why did I wait so long to read this)

“You intolerable lunatic," he snarled at me, and then he caught my face between his hands and kissed me.”

I SHIPPED THE DRAGON AND AGNIESZKA LIKE CRAZY. And just like, from start to finish, I could NOT put this book down. It’s filled with such magic, action, hate to love, witty banter, and just everything. Basically I expected nothing and this book gave me everything.

This is 100% a 2017 favorite (one I read this year at least haha). And also an all-time favorite.

Have you read either of these? Did you love Uprooted as much as I did?

I've been in a slump too, thankfully Shannon's getting me into the Hunger games has seemed to cure that since I blew through the first book! Glad these were both good- Uprooted does sound pretty awesome.

Oh Shannon and her Hunger Games haha. I remember how excited she was to send you the series so that you could read it hahaha.

Uprooted was really awesome! Definitely something I highly recommend :D
I feel like so many bloggers have had horrible slumps this year, myself included. Loving the mini reviews.

Thanks Nereyda! Yes, this one is just bad. I think it's because I'm still recovering from my end of semester stress aha.
Oh I'm so sorry you've been in a slump lately, Valerie, I hope it'll go away soon! I'm glad the semester is over for you though, hope you will be able to relax and read and breathe and just have peaceful holidays maybe? Let's hope so :)
I haven't read any of these books, but I have heard great things about both - especially Uprooted, I think you recommended it to me not so long ago, ahah. I really want to read it now :D

I hope so too! I'm also hoping to have a peaceful holiday but WHO KNOWS what will happen over break haaha. But I'm sure it'll be nice to just destress.

And yes you should read Uprooted! To be fair I just got a copy of it, so I am pretty late to the party as well :P
I have read both of these! Only... I am such a black sheep and didn't love Uprooted? I didn't hate it or anything, I just didn't love it. It's funny because I think I shipped the romance more in Wintersong and less in Uprooted, which is probably why I felt a bit opposite of you. I think I gave Uprooted 3 stars? 3.5? And I think Wintersong was like, 4 or 4.5. Now I am curious so I shall check. Bye.

Wow and here I was thinking that you were the best, yet you didn't love Uprooted? WHO ARE YOU. Ya poo.

Well BYE TO YOU TOO
I'M SO, SO HAPPY YOU LOVED UPROOTED. I WAS NERVOUS BUT YAYYYYYYY. ISN'T IT THE BEST?

IT IS IT IS IT IS!!!
You liked Wintersong? Yay! I'm so happy because I loved that book. I did think some folks would be frustrated that the story itself is slow and winding, I found it was all about character development and I really loved it for that. It was the type of book I wouldn't normally read and enjoy as I'm normally all about the plot. And Uprooted! That books is so so good, I love it. Why did it take so long for you to read? I shipped Agnieska and the dragon hard too. That book makes me so happy.
I have had my copy of Uprooted sitting on my bookshelf for a couple of years now. I don't know why I've waited so long, but you saying it's an all-time favourite has me excited to read it again! I don't ship couples in books too often, so I'm interested to see my own thoughts on Agnieszka and the dragon because it sounds like a very interesting and complicated relationship, at least, from what I could tell from the blurb.

Great reivews, Valerie! I your reading slump is left behind with the end of the semester <3
Ahh I'm so excited about Uprooted! Ever since I first heard about it I've been dying to pick it up. So glad you enjoyed it! :)
