Read Play Blog #4: Favorite Sci-Fi Game

Read Play Blog is a meme about video games and books, posted every 16th of the month. Bloggers are encouraged to answer a discussion question, and recommend a video game that is similar to a book they liked. Hosted by Happy Indulgence Books & Read Me Away.

What's your favorite Sci-Fi game?

I also forgot about posting my favorite Sci-Fi game! Gah, life. But anyways, to be honest I was going to mention that Mass Effect was my favorite Sci-Fi video game series, but let's switch it up for now. I also don't consider myself a true ME fan, only because I've only played the second game, and half of the third. That will be fixed by next month, I promise.

Yay for Star Ocean!

The Star Ocean series has actually been around for a pretty long time now, I think it started with the Playstation 1. I also enjoyed playing Star Ocean: Til the End of Time on the Playstation 2, but I never ended up finishing it (it was two discs!).

Anyways, the one I have featured is Star Ocean: The Last Hope. It's for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, and basically you get to travel to different worlds, to prevent the destruction of the universe! Very complex, haha, but the characters are adorable. Also, there are a lot of feels!

Monthly Recommendation

What have I not recommended yet? That is the bigger question!

Recommendation: Suikoden Tierkreis

So I stumbled on this little gem for the Nintendo DS a while back, and it WAS AN AMAZING GAME. It's your typical fantasy RPG game, but with an incredible storyline, and also a billion characters to collect for your party. Seriously, there are more than 100+ playable characters that you can collect along the way of your journey. Sometimes it's easy, but other times you have to do a certain quest in a certain time frame.

I remember looking at the guide for it, hahah, it was a lot.

I didn't even finish the stupid, amazing game. I really need to get on that. I just have a problem with finishing games in general, sigh. But yeah, this is actually not that well known, even though there's also a series surrounding it as well!

Haha, I LOVE VIDEO GAMES but I can't say I've played this game. Love your enthusiasm! :D Sounds like a great game though. I like stupid, amazing games. ^_^

YOU LOVE VIDEO GAMES YESSS. Yeah these games are pretty underrated i think, so that makes sense!
I've always been intrigued by Star Ocean but never took the plunge and played one of the games! I'm really liking the looks of Suikoden Tierkreis right now. My favorite sci-fi game on the PS2 was probably Xenosaga, I think that counts, yeah? :P I mostly played Final Fantasy, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, and Ratchet and Clank. Now I mostly play the 3DS, and that's with open ended games like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon :)

That does count! I haven't played Xenosaga but I kept seeing it in stores, you know, back in the day when the PS2 was still relevant. I really want a 3DS, but my first priority for now is the PS4 :D
I actually had Star Ocean on my old original Playstation that I had 20 or so years ago, I've actually still got it in storage. Is it still the same sort of 'choose your own adventure' game? I loved that. Though I remember playing it when I was in my late teens and when you got stuck in the game, you basically had to start a new game. There was just no getting out of choosing the wrong path or options.

Thanks for sharing Val <3

YOU DID KELLY!?? I was only able to see youtube videos of the old Star Ocean. It still looked good! I want to say it's not the same? Like you follow a strict storyline, but you get to choose what characters to play with. Is that the same? You can't get stuck unless you're stuck on a boss battle.

I wasn't able to finish Star Ocean on the PS2, just this newer one on the PS3 :P

THANKS FOR COMMENTING KELLY <3
I like the art for Star Ocean's poster! :O I haven't really heard about it, but I think it's a game that I would like to play sometime. Adding this to my list of games to play, haah! :)

Thanks for participating, Val!

It is really nice art! There are also a lot of fanart for it as well (especially wallpapers for my computer!) and they're all super nice! YAY GO PLAY IT!

Thanks for hosting as usual!
I'm also horrendous at finishing games *looks at Pokemon Red >.> <.<* but these sounds like such fun! I wish that I could let myself play video games these days, but I'll just live vicariously through you all instead ;-)

YOU DIDN'T FINISH POKEMON RED WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUUUUU. Just kidding I haven't finished some pokemon games either.

Hahahha I'll make sure you live *your* life to the fullest Anya, through video games.
WOAH 100 playable characters? The name of the game actually sounds familiar, but I don't think I actually came out and played the game lol! Or if I did, I never finished it. I haven't played Star Ocean before but it sounds like fun! Thanks for posting Val :D

I think it's part of a series? I'm not sure, I wasn't very familiar with it! But yeah there are a lot of characters! I think I might start it over one day, though honestly I don't know when I'll have the time.

Thanks for hosting THIS AWESOME MEME Jeann!
Love the post!!!!!
In the event that all you're searching for is an in number,narrative-driven role-playing adventure,Star Ocean: The Last Hope isn't going to do much to fulfill you.Be that as it may, regardless of its inadequacies in this area, its gigantic number of extras and its addictive, profoundly key and strategic combat system make it a great deal of fun.
epic!
My first gaming experience was too exciting, so I started playing frequently, and now I know how to find gaming cheats and tricks online.
